Don't Wait to Entice These Rod Rippers

Fishing in the mountains right now is outstanding. We are catching lots of great trout and some real lunker smallmouth. The Watauga River float trips have been the ticket for some quality trout fishing. There have been sulfer mayflies hatching as well as midges, craneflies, and caddis flies.

Fish can be taken on or near the surface all day long. Beginners and experienced anglers are having 50 fish days with plenty of fish over 16 inches getting put in the net. The South Holston is just now firing up for the summer and should really get good over the next few weeks.

The water releases are becoming more consistant and favorable for some good dry fly fishing. The sulfer hatch is on and should last at least another month, so if you like big fish on dry flies don't miss this opportunity. We have absolutely been hammering the smallmouth bass. The rivers are all clear and at perfect levels for getting on the bass. We have been catching very impressive numbers of fish with lots of fish over 2 pounds getting caught. The smallmouth are chasing bait fish everywhere and there are an abundance of crawfish in the river right now providing lots of growing food.

The top water fishing has been great on account of the 17 year cicadas that have invaded the trees along the French Broad River. Finding the right fly to entice these rod rippers should not be a challenge. Don't wait to set up your summer fly fishing adventure.
