Fishing is Heating Up

Spring is now here in full force. We have been experiencing some outstanding fishing on our streams and rivers. The Watauga River float trips have been very productive for anglers of all skill levels. There are caddis flies, crane flies, midges and sulfer mayflies hatching throughout the day keeping the fish in a feeding frenzie ALL DAY!

We are catching trout of all sizes and species over on the Watauga. Boats are averaging 25-50 trout on the full day float trips with a few real lunkers on the line everyday

The South Holston wade fishing is also great right now. The sulfer mayflies are popping over there as well making for some real nice dry fly fishing. The South Holston brown trout will come up to the surface for these bugs whenever the opportunity arrises. Water releases have not allowed us to float the South Holston yet. Typically we begin doing float trips on the S. Holston River in early June when the sulfer activity realy intensifies.

Stream fishing around the Asheville area is also quite productive right now. The Delayed Harvest streams are ALL loaded up with trout. Prince nymphs and pheasant tails will entice these fish anytime. Look to the deep holes for the larger concentrations o! f fish. Parachute adams and elk hair caddis flies will bring trout up to the surface just about all day long. Smallmouth fishing is off to a strong start.

The smallmouth rivers are all in excellent shape with low and clear water. This changes after a rain storm, but quickly returns to ideal levels when the rain subsides. We are catching the majority of our smallies on crayfish immitations. Small baitfish are also present and are another good food source for big smallmouth right now. The larger smallmouth are moving onto their beds making for some awesome topwater flyfishing. This is the beginning of our topwater smallmouth fishing for the spring/summer. Our 1/2 day float trips are averaging 15-20 smallies per boat with fish up to 20 inches not uncommon.

If you haven't set up your fishing trip with us for the summer- don't wait because our schedule is quickly filling up!
