Fishing Trips in North Carolina and Tennessee
Summer fishing conditions are excellent
The tailwaters, small streams, and freestone smallmouth rivers all are producing solid numbers of fish with lots of quality trout and bass gettin put in the net. The Watauga and South Holston have both been providing some great summer dry fly fishing for brown and rainbow trout.

Sulfer mayflies have been the talk of the S. Holston. During the afternoon releases from the dam, the hatch has been world-class with brown trout from 12 inches up to 20 inches eating sulfer duns all up and down the river. The Watauga float trips in both high and low water have been great for both beginner and experienced anglers. Terrestrials are the ticket on the Watauga right now. We are seing some real lunkers coming up to the surface for an easy meal. The hotter the weather the better!
The smallmouth fishing has also been really good with the nice flows that we are experiencing. Minnow immitations will be the real producer for the big smallmouth from now through the rest of the summer. The bite on the smallmouth seems to heat up as the temperature rises. 10-3 have been the witching hours as odd as it may seem. Dragonflies and damsel flies will also get them during the heat of the day. Blue and red are good colors to try when you see the fish hitting the surface.
The flow on the French Broad is setting the stage for some great fall fishing, so don"t wait to set up your next fishing adventure.
