Title: June 25th Fishing Report
We are having some outstanding early summer fishing. The tailwaters and smallmouth rivers are on fire!!!! If you like casting dry flies to large rising brown trout then the South Holston is the place for you. The sulfer mayfly hatch is going strong on the upper river and anglers are consistantly putting 30 plus trout in the net with some real quality fish.

If you like casting dry flies to large rising brown trout then the South Holston is the place for you. The sulfer mayfly hatch is going strong on the upper river and anglers are consistantly putting 30 plus trout in the net with some real quality fish. The hatch seems to take place in the early afternoon and lasting 3-4 hours. Sunny days are ideal over on the South Holston.
The Watauga is also fishing quite well when the TVA dam release is user friendly. No release or a release of up to 1500 cfs makes for good conditions. The sulfers are also present on the Watauga right now, so have your yellow sulfer duns #16 and or #16 comparaduns and look for rising fish all day. If the release is over 2000 cfs, go on to the house.
The smallmouth fishing has been the real thrill lately. Topwater fishing is sporadic, but when they're looking up expect to see the big boys hitting on the surface. Minnow and crawfish immitations fished at various levels in the water column are what is producing. Our 1/2 day float trips are averaging 40 fish per trip right now with some real lunkers getting put in the boat. Both the smallmouth bass and trout fishing should remain strong over the next few months with the nice flows of water we have, so don't wait to schedule your next fishing adventure!
