Now that’s a pre-spawn smallmouth!!! Asheville area streams and rivers are in good shape for some April fishing! Smallmouth bass rivers have been remaining at stable levels which is key for good fishing this time of year. Temps are starting to warm which will also signal an end to the pre-spawn fishing. The smallies will be moving to their beds where they will remain for the next few weeks. This is a great time to target those calm areas close to the bank and behind boulders. Topwater fishing should turn on as well during this time. Watauga and South Holston Rivers are still giving up good numbers of rainbow and brown trout. Caddis are showing up in the lower ends of both rivers. Levels are not consistent, so call before you haul.
